At Donor Egg Bank USA we know that one of our most valuable benefits can also be one of our most intimidating: our diverse group of hundreds of donors. The fact that we can offer so many choices is great news for prospective parents looking for just the right traits, background, or other specifics in a donor. Yet, we also understand that when first faced with a lengthy list of available donors it’s easy to feel a little overwhelmed.
But there are a couple of things to remember before you even begin. Firstly, you will not be alone. Our dedicated case managers will give you the personalized guidance you need to get started and are only a phone call away if you need assistance. And most importantly, you are not choosing blindly. In fact, there are a number of opportunities to learn quite a bit about each donor; to help narrow your focus and gain added peace of mind about your decision.
What’s for Sure
Actually, before your frozen-egg donor is even added to our catalog, we’ve taken a series of precautions (that adhere to some very important protocols) to make sure they meet our exacting standards. In that way, we can help ensure that every one of our donors is the most qualified to help make your dreams of building a family come true.
Rigorous Screening
First and foremost, we want to know everything we can about each of our donor’s current health, medical history, behaviors, and family backgrounds so that we can offer you the most qualified donor available.
We require all our donors to be healthy non-smokers between the ages of 21 and 33 and ask that each one participates in an extensive screening process that includes the following:
Physical Examination
Psychological Examination
Drug Usage Screening
FDA Risk Assessment Questionnaire
Multi-Generational Health History Questionnaire
Appropriate Cultures, Ultrasounds, and Blood Tests
Sexually Transmitted Disease Testing
Expanded Genetic Testing
Infectious Disease Testing
Diversity Matters
We also understand that no two of our families are alike; that each one is searching for a donor as unique as they are. For that reason, we’ve focused on building a frozen-egg donor catalog that is as diverse as possible when it comes to race, ethnicity, religion, education, disclosure preference, and beyond.
Where Do I start?
Even if you’re still just considering using frozen donor egg, you can easily view all the donors available to you, with no obligation. Our website lists all our donors by their individual ID numbers. As you’re browsing through their profiles, you’ll be able to view the following for each donor:
Age
Race
Ethnicity
Hair Color
Eye Color
Height
Weight
Education
Number of Eggs in Lot
What if I Want to Know More?
Should you decide you’d like to find out more about any of the donors, you can register for free to learn a little bit more about who they really are — inside and out — including:
Photos: Multiple photos of the donor as an adult and from their childhood
Physical Characteristics: Dress size, body frame, hair texture, etc.
Education/Work History: Degrees earned, jobs held, etc.
Skills/Abilities: Languages, academics, athletic and musical strengths and abilities, etc.
Personality/Motivations: Hobbies, personality traits, goals, reasons for donating, etc.
And then, once you are fully enrolled in our program, you’ll have access to many of the answers you would likely be seeking if you were seriously considering using this donor. That includes:
Personal Health History:
You’ll discover information about their vision (do they wear glasses?), any allergies they may have, if they follow a specific type of diet, medications they may take, and more.
Family History:
This is your chance to learn more about the donor’s extended family: the physical characteristics of their siblings, biological parents and grandparents, and other information.
Medical History:
Each donor is asked to complete an extensive questionnaire about their own medical history and that of their extended family as well. The lengthy list of very specific questions covers all areas of their (and their family’s) health. This includes any diseases, disorders, or conditions that have been treated or corrected.
Genetic Carrier Screening Results:
Potential donors complete an expanded genetic carrier screening panel. You’ll be able to view a final report that includes not just the results, but also interpretations of the raw data, additional information about the findings, and recommendations for how to proceed with the knowledge you now have about this particular donor’s genetic carrier screening.
The Option for ID Disclosure
At Donor Egg Bank USA, we are grateful that we’re able to provide you with such comprehensive profiles for all our donors while still maintaining their privacy. We’re also pleased to offer you access to many “ID disclosure” donors as well. These donors are individuals who have consented to having their identifying information available to your child — should they be interested once they are of legal age.
The Choice Is Yours
Our team of experienced and dedicated staff understands just how important choosing your egg donor can be. And we want to do everything we can to support you in that decision. But the truth is, nobody knows you and your hopes and dreams better than … you. For that reason, whatever choice you make regarding a donor will be the “right” one, because it is yours. And really, haven’t you already made the most important decision: to use a frozen-egg donor to help you on your path to your ultimate goal, becoming a parent?
