Leading The Next Chapter of Donor Egg Bank USA

For those I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting during my 15 years working in fertility, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Mike Large, and I’m thrilled to be leading the next chapter of Donor Egg Bank USA!

A native of Wisconsin, I earned my B.S. in Cellular and Molecular Biology there, and then my PhD at Baylor College of Medicine, focusing on the intersection of progesterone and growth factor signaling and their role in endometrial receptivity. Tapped by Genesis Genetics to open a PGT-A and R&D laboratory in Houston, Texas, I became a technical expert and was instrumental in the adoption and implementation of Next Generation Sequencing. After Genonomic Laboratories was acquired by CooperSurgical, I was promoted to its Director and oversaw multiple PGT-A labs in the U.S. and Canada. Most recently, the R&D team I had the honor of leading there developed the molecular and informatics platforms behind ERPeak, PGTai, PGTai 2.0, and PGT Complete.

But my most treasured title is one I would not trade for anything in the world. I like to call it my instant “graduate-level dad status.” That occurred when I married my lovely wife, gained a stepdaughter, and then had a baby girl shortly after, and then a little boy! As my kids get older, I’m looking forward to sharing experiences with our whole family (including our eight-year-old Great Dane), enjoying each chapter as it comes. That might mean traveling together, enjoying live music, or just relaxing in the backyard with something from my smoker. Yes, I’m a foodie.

As I embark on this new adventure, I must admit Heidi Hayes has left some big shoes to fill. And I would be remiss in not thanking her for being so generous with her time and for such fantastic mentoring during this transition. I cannot overstate how impressed I’ve been by our talented and dedicated team, the commitment of our contributing partners to quality and excellence, and the moving and heartwarming stories of our families.

As someone whose own family-building journey has not been without struggles, I find the CooperSurgical vision of a world with healthy women, babies, and families to be deeply motivating. And if anything is clear, it’s that Donor Egg Bank USA is perfectly aligned with, and critical to, that vision. Having an insatiable drive for progress, I am eager to leverage my experience in operations and innovation and pair it with input from each of you to make our great service even better!
